If your travel needs include a wide range of ages and interests, a
central location in Midtown Manhattan or Greenwich Village will give
everyone in the family something to enjoy. From Midtown, it's a short
trip to the American Museum of Natural History for the dinosaur-lover
among you. The concerts at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts
and the exhibits on the Museum Mile are a short subway or taxicab ride
away. The southern edge of Central Park is at 59th Street, so it's also a
short trip for family picnics, a visit to the Central Park Zoo or
Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte Theater. Try staying at the Gorham Hotel, a "boutique" hotel with decent rates. Or, the New York Marriott Marquis, smack in the middle of Times Square.
Another family-friendly hotel is Midtown's Roger Williams, a modern design that features Shoji-style window screens, brushed stainless steel lamps and custom-designed maple furniture in each room.
Greenwich Village boasts many street fairs and performances and the many
subway lines provide easy transportation throughout the city. And if
your faithful, family dog is coming along, Greenwich Village also offers
the dog run in Washington Square Park, considered one of the city's
finest. Check into the Washington Square Hotel or the Pioneer Hotel, perfect for families on a budget.
